The World War One 1917 Sovereign

In 1917, Britain found itself deeply entrenched in the horrors of World War One, facing both military and societal challenges.

The British Government had to move large quantities of Sovereigns into the Gold reserve held by the Bank of England, in an attempt to pay off the debt owed to the United States.

This saw huge numbers of Gold Sovereigns be melted down.

But today, you have the chance to secure a rare 1917-dated Sovereign which survived the melting pot and the throes of WWI. Here's why you need one for your collection:

  • The 1917 Sovereign now extraordinarily rare - represents a vitally important part of history and is therefore a must for any collector.
  • A genuine Sovereign struck over 100 years ago
  • Issued in the year our Royal family changed to the House of Windsor
  • Only a small number available for Westminster Collectors - the first time it's been offered
  • Struck from 22 Carat Gold to the same specification as today’s Sovereigns
  • Features King George V’s portrait on the obverse

Due to its scarcity, this is the first time The Westminster Collection have been able to offer the 1917 Sovereign.
