This is your limited opportunity to secure a 4-Margin Penny Black. Something that it seems fewer and fewer British collectors will be able to boast in their collections in the years ahead as more and more of these head overseas.
The Penny Black Stamp
Over 170 years ago, the vision of Rowland Hill was realised. Up to 1840, postage was charged on the number of sheets used and the distance to be travelled. Clerks assessed each package and wrote the fee on the letter to be collected on delivery.
Hill replaced this cumbersome, expensive process with a single prepaid charge based on weight, regardless of distance. This type of payment was indicated by a ‘small stamped label’ – known as The Penny Black. Introduced on 6th May, 1840, it took its place in history as the very first pre-paid postage stamp.
Just 25 4-Margin Penny Blacks available
Because Penny Blacks had to be cut out of the sheet by hand, rather than torn out from perforated sheets, most lack the serious collector’s goal of four clear white margins around the stamp.
However, we have been able to secure a small selection of just 25 4-Margin Penny Blacks.
Your 4-Margin Penny Black will be guaranteed quality with four clear margins, no tears or bends, and a clear cancellation. It is accompanied by a Serial Numbered Certificate of Authenticity, independently counter-signed by Ian Beckett, one of the UK’s leading experts in Victorian Stamps.
To enable you to fully display your historic stamp without risk of damage, it will arrive carefully mounted and housed within an acrylic case, set inside a luxurious wooden box. So it remains something to treasure and pass down to your children and grandchildren.
Because we've only been able to accumulate a very small quantity of just 25 4-Margin Penny Blacks, if you’d like to secure one of these historic pieces of British philately, please order today.
