The Annual 5oz Silver Maple Leaf from the Royal Canadian Mint has become something of a phenomenon over the last few years.
There are 2 reasons why – and they’re definitely related.
- The Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a policy of ensuring each year there is something unique and amazing about the coin, from holograms to Murano glass.
- They SELL OUT. Last year all 2,000 coins sold out and I had a waiting list.
Of course, the sell outs are a direct result of the Maple Leaf’s unique feature.
The 2017 issue is no different - for the first time ever the coin is struck in an incredible dome shape.
Although dome-shaped coins have been issued before, this is the first 5oz dome-shaped coin. Measuring a full 6cm in diameter, it's over TWICE the size of a crown. You can only imagine the minting expertise required to produce such a remarkable coin.
Struck in 5oz of 999/1000 pure Silver to a pristine Proof finish, the domed reverse design features a cluster of maple leaves, designed by Canadian artist Lisa Thomson-Khan. Each coin comes encapsulated and presented in its official Royal Canadian Mint presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
