2016 UK Great Fire of London Circulation £2
In 2016, we marked the 350th Anniversary of The Great Fire of London. Starting in a bakery in Pudding Lane, the devastating fire blazed for four days. It destroyed virtually all of the old walled City of London, taking with it the homes of 70,000 residents.
To mark the anniversary, the United Kingdom issued a new £2 coin.
The coin features an intricate design of the London skyline, depicting the view of the fire from one of the riverboats that people relied on for safety during the fire.
The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Jody Clark.
