The Yeoman Warders guard the historic fortress of The Tower of London.
Built by William the Conqueror to proclaim and defend his royal power, the Tower of London has stood on the banks of the River Thames for more than 1,000 years.
The Yeoman Warders are famous for their iconic red uniforms and are commonly referred to as ‘Beefeaters’. Even today, history and ceremony are woven into their daily duties.
The reverse design depicts a Yeoman Gaoler standing proud with his ceremonial axe, overlapping with a section of the Tower’s walls.
This is the third coin in The Royal Mint’s Tower of London £5 series. Once all four coins are put together the small section of the Tower’s walls engraved on each coin will create a plan of the Tower of London.
The Obverse shows a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark.
