Without a doubt some of the most mystical and incredible creatures to have ever walked on Earth are dinosaurs. The first three prehistoric creatures to be discovered were named ‘Dinosauria’ by British anatomist Richard Owen in 1842.
And now, to celebrate the discovery of dinosaurs The Royal Mint has authorised for a series of 50p coins to be released. The first 50p features the Megalosaurus dinosaur – the very first dinosaur to feature on a UK coin! First editions such as this are always incredibly popular with collectors and fans alike, and fast become some of the most sought-after coins around.
Meaning ‘great lizard’ in Greek, the Megalosaurus is thought to be the first dinosaur to be discovered. The creature on this 50p has been designed by renowned British palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, with expert guidance by the Earth Sciences Department of the Natural History Museum.
Struck by The Royal Mint to a pristine Brilliant Uncirculated finish, your coin will arrive in its official Royal Mint presentation pack.
What’s more, it’s available to you today for the Royal Mint issue price of £10 (+p&p).
