2021 UK Sir Walter Scott CERTIFIED BU £2

2021 commemorates the 250th anniversary of the birth of novelist, historian, and poet, Sir Walter Scott, who is considered the inventor of historical novels.

Regarded by many as one of the most influential Scots in history, 250 years on, his impact on modern English language can still be felt and so it is only fitting that this incredible anniversary should be celebrated with a BRAND NEW UK £2 coin.

Designed by Stephen Raw, the new coin features a portrait of Scott alongside lettering inspired by monuments to the writer.

The inscription reads, “THE WILL TO DO, THE SOUL TO DARE”, a quote from Scott’s epic poem, ‘Marmion: A Tale of Flodden Field’.
