Secure the incredibly rare King George III Silver Piedfort £5

Secure the incredibly rare King George III Silver Piedfort £5

King George III was the first king of the United Kingdom, and remains to this day the longest reigning king in British history. His impressive 59-year reign saw great change in Britain, including the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, agricultural and industrial revolutions and Britain emerging as a world power.

And, significantly, this year marks the 200th anniversary of the end of his reign.

To commemorate this important time in our nation’s history and to celebrate his life and legacy, The Royal Mint has announced the issue of the official UK King George III £5 Silver Piedfort Coin.

There are several factors which set Piedforts apart from all other issues, and make them some of the most collectible coins around.

Visually they are a real talking point. They are struck on superior double-thickness blanks, in Sterling Silver and finished to the very highest proof quality. Double the thickness means they are double the weight of the Silver Proof issue and contain double the amount of Silver.

Impeccably struck from .925 Sterling Silver to an immaculate proof finish, this coin features a design by Dominique Evans, which explores the multifaceted nature of Britain’s longest reigning king. The design incorporates an effigy of the king alongside the King’s Observatory and Windsor Castle.

Incredibly rare – only 550 available worldwide

What’s perhaps more important though is its edition limit. Piedforts are coveted for their low edition limits, and this issue is no different with the smallest single coin edition limit we’ve ever seen – JUST 550. That’s OVER four times smaller than the edition limit of the standard Silver Proof issue.

Considering this, and the historical importance of King George III’s reign, there is sure to be significant interest amongst knowledgeable collectors. Expect a very swift sell out.

Especially when you consider that royal £5 commemorative Piedforts have a history of selling out. The Royal Wedding £5 Piedfort – with a higher edition limit of 2,018 COMPLETELY SOLD OUT at The Royal Mint.
