The Silver Coin of the Colonies

The Victorian period is known for its vast range of coinage, numismatic experimentation and of course its innovation.

There’s one coin that is seldom known among collectors, and appears only in very few collections.

The Coin of the Colonies

The Silver Three Half Pence was issued during a small number of years under Queen Victoria (From 1837 to 1843, 1860 and 1862). Because of its low value denomination it was produced for circulation in the British Colonies, mostly Ceylon and the West Indies.

Over 150 years old

These coins are over 150 years old, and because they were shipped straight to British Colonies after minting, few have ever made their way back to the United Kingdom. Many have been lost to private collections or even melted down for their precious metal content, meaning that of the small number that were issued, very few remain available for collectors.
