2008 'First of the New' Proof Set

Since 1970, The Royal Mint has released a limited number of Proof Sets featuring the coins issued for circulation every year.

2008 was a pivotal year for the UK and its currency as the Royal Mint unveiled new designs for British coins.

And today, you can own the sought-after 2008 Royal Mint Annual Proof set - the first of the new designs arranged in the shield format.

The 2008 Annual Proof set - also known as the 'First of the New' Proof Set - features the definitive issues from the £1 to the Penny in their original circulating metals. Here's why you need it:

  • Each coin is struck to the Royal Mint’s highest standard Proof finish, using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
  • These seven British coins  debut the royal shield of arms definitive designs, introduced in 2008.
  • Enhanced with exquisite detail as every blank is struck more than once to ensure a clearer and finer design than the coins that you would find in your change.
  • Highly sought after by collectors -JUST 20,000 WORLDWIDE
  • Housed in original Royal Mint packaging

Proof sets represent the pinnacle of the Royal Mint’s craftsmanship, so they are in high demand amongst collectors. And because of the skill and time involved in striking proof coins, the edition limits are often tiny.

This set is no longer available at the Royal Mint and often difficult to track down on the secondary market.

In fact, only a limited number are available today, so they won't be available for long.
