1984 Proof Set - The Last Machin Proof Set

Every year since 1970 the Royal Mint has released a limited number of annual sets with proof versions of the coins issued for circulation that year.

Today you can own the sought-after 1984 Royal Mint Annual Proof set.

It contains eight coins – including the definitive issues from the One Pound coin to the Half Penny in their original circulating metals.

Interestingly, the 1984 edition is the last proof set to include coins with the Queen Elizabeth II Arnold Machin portrait design on the obverse, and the last set to include a halfpenny.

What's more, a total of five of the coins were not issued for circulation including the halfpenny, two pence, five pence, ten pence and fifty pence.

Each coin is struck to the Royal Mint’s highest standard Proof finish, using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.

Because of the skill and time involved in striking proof coins, they are in high demand amongst collectors.

In fact, this set is no longer available at the Royal Mint and can be difficult to track down on the secondary market.

We only have a limited number available to offer but with demand high, we don’t expect these sets to be available for long.
