Best of British Exploration Collector's Edition - JUST 100 AVAILABLE

Issued to celebrate the very best of British exploration, this collection of four silver-plated legal tender coins celebrates four historic figures whose searches for land and knowledge, trade and booty across the ages has shaped our understanding of the world.

Preserving their stories for generations to come, this collection commemorates:

Sir Walter Raleigh: who sailed to America in 1585 and founded the first English colony in America on Roanoke Island (now North Carolina). He was also an author, poet and favourite of Elizabeth I, but was eventually put to death in the Tower of London, accused of treason, by James I.

Captain James Cook: an 18th century explorer whose achievements mapping the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia radically changed western perceptions of world geography. Most famously, he was the first European to set foot in Australia, claiming it for Great Britain.

Robert Falcon Scott: also known as ‘Scott of the Antarctic’, was a naval officer and explorer whose mission to reach the Sount Pole before anyone else was thwarted on 17 January 1912 when he arrived at the South Pole only to find he had been not long beaten to it by a Norwegian party.

Sir Ernest Shackleton: best known for his three expeditions to the Antarctic. With ‘Discovery’ in 1901, Shackleton made it closer to the South Pole than anyone before, with ‘Nimrod’ in 1908 he climbed mouth Erebus and made many important scientific discoveries and, most famously, with ‘Endurance’ in 1914 where not one crew member died despite the ship sinking.

Importantly just 100 of these 'Best of British Exploration' silver-plated coin sets have been issued. They won't be around for long.
