The RARE 1916 Sovereign Struck in London

The 1916 London Sovereign is a rare historic gem that is not often seen in the hands of collectors.

As one of the few to be struck at the London branch of The Royal Mint, Sovereigns from this year without an Australian mintmark are extremely difficult to find.

Bu today, there are a limited number available.

Here’s why you need one for your collection:

  • Sovereigns issued during 1916 were mainly struck at branches of The Royal Mint outside of Britain – starting with Sydney, followed by Melbourne, then Perth.
  • The lack of mint mark on this coin indicates it was struck at The Royal Mint in London, rather than at one of the colonial branch mints.
  • Issued amidst the destruction of World War One, it is suggested that the 1916 London Sovereign was intended to pay overseas countries for helping Britain to fight in WWI.
  • The total mintage of the 1916 London Sovereign is significantly lower than the 1914 and 1915 Sovereigns.
  • For example, only 1,544,120 were issued in London in 1916 compared to 20,295,000 in 1915 and 11,501,000 in 1914.
  • Extremely scarce piece of history – only a tiny number available

Given the rich history of this storied Sovereign and the tiny number on offer, this coin will only be available to secure through our team of Numismatic Experts.
